1953-1960Edit

The BBC News Channel was launched on November 9, 1953 at 5:30 pm. The first interpretation of the BBC News Channel was "BBC Television News Service." it was introduced on November 9, 1953 and was retired on November 8, 1954.

BBC Television News (first era)Edit

1960-1964 Edit

BBC Television News Service was renamed to BBC Television News in 1960.The name lasted only 5 years. The BBC Television News name was introduced on November 9, 1954. It was retired on April 14, 1964.

BBC News Service Edit

1964-1965 Edit

BBC Television News was renamed to BBC News Service as viewing statistics of BBC Television News was deteriorating. The name only lasted 2 years. It was introduced on April 15, 1964. It was retired on November 8, 1965.

BBC National News Service Edit

1965-1974 Edit

The viewing statistics of BBC News Service severely deteriorated, so the BBC rebranded the BBC News Service to BBC National News Service. Viewing statistics soared when BBC National News Service launched on November 9, 1965. It was introduced on November 9, 1965 and was retired on November 8, 1974.

BBC Television News (second era) Edit

1974-1988 Edit

BBC National News Service was rebranded to BBC Television News. It was introduced on November 9, 1974 and was retired on December 31, 1988.

BBC News (first era) Edit

1988-1997 Edit

BBC Television News was rebranded to BBC News, with new slogans. idents had flags with the BBC News logo and slogan superimposed on the ident. A 5 month hiatus was made on 1997 to make way for BBC News 24. (June-October 1997)

BBC News 24Edit

1997-2008Edit

The BBC introduced the new BBC News 24 channel on November 9, 1997. This was also the first digital channel in the UK.

As idents and graphics for the new service, Lambie-Nairn continued on the flag theme that they had previously developed for BBC World and the BBC World Service. While the earlier incarnation of the flag idents had used computer-animated flags, this one would use actual flags. BBC World used the same idents.

Lambie-Nairn gave a new look to the BBC News services once again in 2003 and 2007.

BBC News ChannelEdit

2008-2013Edit

On April 21, 2008, all BBC News services were rebranded once again. As part of this change, BBC News 24 shortened its name to BBC News.

2013-present Edit

On March 2013, all BBC News services were rebranded due to the move of the BBC to BBC New Broadcasting House.
